Network connectivity with Qminder
This document provides technical information to IT staff to configure corporate firewalls and proxies to access Qminder. These accesses are required in a corporate network for all Qminder functionality, including iPad and TV as well as employee dashboard support.
Devices that the rules apply to
The below firewall rules must be applied to:
-
All computers, tablets, mobile devices that Qminder will be used on
-
iPads used with the Qminder iPad Sign-in Kiosk app
-
Apple TV devices used with the Qminder TV app
Protocols used
Qminder uses two protocols for data exchange:
-
HTTPS (port 443) -- based on TCP
-
WebSocket Secure (port 443) -- based on TCP
Connection testing
It is recommended to use Qminder's built in connectivity test to verify that the firewall has been set up correctly. This test can be run by visiting the following URL in the web browser:
https://dashboard.qminder.com/test/
Outbound traffic
Qminder is a web based service. Employees will access Qminder Dashboard by navigating to https://dashboard.qminder.com via their web browser on any desktop, mobile or tablet device. All traffic will be either HTTPS or WebSocket protocol.
Qminder's iPad Sign-in Kiosk and TV apps will access Qminder's cloud services over HTTPS and WebSocket connections.
Ports
443 (HTTPS + WebSocket Secure)
Inbound traffic
Qminder's cloud services will not establish connections to your corporate network, except when sending Webhooks to a designated URL.
No static IP address is needed for the corporate network.
Webhooks
In order to use Webhooks to integrate with the API, the Qminder cloud service will send HTTP POST requests to an URL chosen by the customer side IT department.
